On the evening of April 27, DP President Renho met with Chinese Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Wu Dawei at party headquarters.

At the start of the meeting, Renho expressed her appreciation for Wu’s visit and stated, “The DP is extremely keen on the situation in North Korea, and we would like the opportunity to discuss such matters.”  Wu then thanked her for receiving him.

Following the meeting, Renho responded to reporters’ questions.  Asked about the content of the discussions, she stressed the importance of China’s role, stating, “China possesses a great deal of influence over North Korea, and I urged them, as a member of the international community, to exercise this enormous power that they possess.”

Discussions also included exchanges on the need to find a speedy resolution to the current challenges posed by North Korean issues, the importance of the effective implementation of sanctions by the international community in order to achieve this, and inter-party exchanges between the DP and the Chinese Communist Party.

The meeting was also attended by Standing Advisor Katsuya Okada, Policy Research Committee Chair Hiroshi Ogushi, Deputy Secretary-General Yuichiro Tamaki, Deputy Secretary-General Tetsuro Fukuyama, Next Minister of Defense Yoichiro Aoyagi, Vice Secretary-General Motohiro Ono, and International Department Director-General Hiroe Makiyama.
