At the start of the meeting, Renho expressed her appreciation for the fact that President Moon had dispatched his special envoy to Japan so soon after being inaugurated, and welcomed Moon and other members of the delegation’s visit to the DP. Moon conveyed his appreciation for her, and stated that he had delivered a proposal to resume shuttle diplomacy between the South Korean government and the government of Japan.

During the meeting, Moon stressed that close communication and cooperation between Japan, the United States and the ROK was essential in order to resolve the issue of North Korea. In response, Renho stated that she would like to liaise closely with the new South Korean administration and further strengthen trilateral cooperation.

Furthermore, Renho called on the ROK government to abide by the agreement made between Japan and the Republic of Korea (on the comfort woman issue).

Renho and Moon agreed to aim to further promote exchanges between lawmakers and political parties between both nations.

The meeting was also attended by DP Standing Adviser Katsuya Okada, who has worked hard to encourage bilateral exchanges between lawmakers and political parties, and Shadow Cabinet Vice Minister for the Abduction Issue Shinkun Haku.
