In the afternoon of February 6, DP President Renho met with Pakistan Ambassador Farukh Amil inside the Diet.

At the start of the meeting Renho expressed her appreciation to Amil for his visit.  In response, the Ambassador stated that Japan is one of the world’s great democracies, stressing the importance that Pakistan places on relations with Japan.  He went on to explain that this year marked the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and a whole variety of commemorative events were scheduled to occur.  Following this, the two sides discussed international stability, the importance of peace, and the way in which countries can show their commitment to the international community.

International Department Director-General Hiroe Makiyama, who was also at the meeting, discussed with the Ambassador ways in which Japanese could become more familiar with Pakistan, and Vice Director-General Motohiro Ono referred to the role of women in politics.
